Ukraine's establishment of footholds on the Russian-held bank of the Dnieper represents a small but potentially significant strategic advance in the midst of a war largely at a standstill. The General Staff of Ukraine's armed forces said its troops there had repelled 12 attacks by the Russian army between Friday and Saturday. In response, the Russian military used "tactical aviation," including Iranian-made Shahed exploding drones, to try to pin down Ukraine's troops, Humeniuk said. Elsewhere, air defenses shot down 29 out of 38 Shahed drones launched against Ukraine, military officials reported. "The first priority of our budget — local budgets and the central budget — should be the army."

CNN —Russian strikes on Odesa overnight damaged at least six residential buildings, a Ukrainian Orthodox Church and “architectural monuments,” according to Ukraine’s southern Operational Command. Ukraine has been struggling in the past week to repel a wave of Russian strikes against Odesa – its air defenses unable to cope with the types of missiles that Moscow has used to pummel the region. In a statement on Sunday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned Moscow’s latest strikes on Odesa. “Missiles against peaceful cities, against residential buildings, a cathedral… There can be no excuse for Russian evil,” Zelensky said. “As always, this evil will lose and there will definitely be a retaliation to Russian terrorists for Odesa.

Kherson, Ukraine CNN —For eight months, residents of the Ukrainian city of Kherson have been living under brutal Russian occupation. But on Friday, Ukrainian forces swept into the city and Russian troops retreated to the east. Another local resident named Andrew said he was so glad to see Ukrainian soldiers. The woman said it felt “amazing” to see Ukrainian troops in Kherson. He warned that many Russian troops “threw away their military uniforms, and are now hiding with civilian clothes on.”
